English
Maths
Phonics
English lessons can be tailored to cover writing, spelling, grammar and or reading from Early Years to Year 6. Teaching is carefully planned to be engaging and meaningful to help all pupils succeed and enjoy lessons.
Maths from Reception to Year 6 can be covered. Both mathematical concepts and reasoning are covered to ensure a greater understanding. Teaching is interactive and uses a range of resources to support learning.
The systematic teaching of phonics is crucial to the early stages of reading and writing. Using careful assessment allows me to know when a child is ready to move on and to close any gaps in learning.
11+
11+ lessons commence in September of Year 5. My comprehensive program includes teaching in Maths, English, and Verbal Reasoning tailored for South Wales, as well as Non-Verbal Reasoning for Bishops. Practicing at home is essential, and I provide all the necessary materials to support your child's learning. Mock exams are available.
Pre-11+
Lessons in Year 4 start to cover the foundations needed to succeed in the 11+. These include spelling, reading comprehension, vocabulary development and maths skills.
About Me
Katharine Higham
I am an experienced primary teacher with over 20 years of teaching in schools, including leadership roles, and
recently achieved a National Professional Qualification in Lead Teaching. I have taught pupils with a wide range of needs, including pupils with SEND, and can extend Able, Gifted and Talented pupils. My DBS, safeguarding and first aid training are all current.
I am a graduate of Oxford University (MA Hons Biological Sciences) and before my teaching career, worked as a research scientist for AstraZeneca.
I live in Salisbury with my husband, 2 children (now at university) and 2 cats! Both of my children went to South Wilts Grammar School.
Tutoring sessions
One hour of face-to-face lessons, working on specific areas of learning. 1:1 allows the content and pace to be tailored to the individual pupil. Sessions are mainly held at Woodford Valley Primary School.
Small Groups
One hour of face-to-face tuition working in a small group of no more than 4. Pupils are closely matched by age and area of learning. All sessions are held at Woodford Valley Primary School.

Online
One hour of online individual tuition. This works really well with a family busy schedule. Lessons are taught using a special tutoring platform which allows interaction between myself and the pupil.
